This is the exact place where I watched my camera light tumble into the stream months earlier. I had a backup, but I wanted my light! So when nobody was looking I went in, and found it to be, yes, quite chilly.

A. It depends on the content and spiritual dynamics of the Ceremony. If you are a spiritual couple, your friends and family will understand your need for substance, expression and symbolism. If you’re having a Catholic wedding you will have far less control in terms of length and content depending on the Priest. A full Mass may be a requirement, which can last an hour to an hour and a half. On the other end of the spectrum, some couples want a five minute Ceremony just to “Get it done”.

I was about to officiate a wedding once and the bride literally grabbed my jacked with both hands and said, “Make it fast!” She wanted more time for pictures, but more than that she was nervous about being emotional in front of friends and family.

If you are outside, your Ceremony will by necessity be faster. The average that we see is 20-30 minutes. Beyond that, the guests tend to get fidgety, and either too hot or too cold. Anything less than 10 minutes is too short. There is no sense in even setting up chairs at that point, and more importantly the brevity may convey a lack of substance in your relationship or a flippancy in your commitment to marriage. That may not be the case, but perception is reality.

If you are inside, 20 minutes should be your starting point. Your minister have no problem filling that time and not losing the attention of the people.

Melana was gripping my hand so hard I thought my fingers were going to break, but she was focused and I was telling her how much time left she had on the contractions. When the midwife finally arrived the baby was crowning and in less than five minutes (2:44am) Melana was holding our new 9lb baby.

He is already lifting his head and nursing. We are very blessed.

The night before the wedding Brent received a large cut just over his eyebrow. His groomsmen kept a tight lip about what happened, but were perfectly willing to give him a hard time about it!

Yesterday we filmed a wedding at a church, then drove to the Reception site to film the Family Photos, which were to take place right before the Grand Entrance. Unfortunately, the directions were bad, and many bridal party and family members wandered through the streets while time ticked away. Without everyone there, we waited close to two hours and watched the sun slip behind the mountains.

I got some great shots of the couple in the meantime, but the lesson learned – take the family photos immediately after signing your license. Otherwise they will disperse to the shadows, and you’ll have to hunt them down like a hootin’ cowboy. What’s more: don’t let them get into their cars and assume they will arrive on time with cheery smiles. Even with good directions, you’re allowing too much to go wrong. A good photographer will hustle through the family shots, so even if you’d be rushed at the church, get ‘em done and hit the trail!

On several occasions we have witnessed an unnecessary and frustrating time-killer. The Limo Driver had not been paid, and would not transport the bridal party without a credit card. In what seems like a moment, a half hour has gone by while a family member drives across town to get the credit card from her purse.

Limo drivers rarely have pity for a frantic bride, and those are expensive minutes.
